From the terminal, determine the name of the display by using the following command: xrandr -q | grep ” connected” Example Result: LVDS-0 connected 1920×1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm So, in this case, LVDS-0 is the name of the display. To set brightness to 50%, use the following command:  xrandr –output LVDS-0 –brightness 0.5
